WHO WE ARE

KidsMatter2.org was created by Polly and Lamar Briggs. Polly is a retired school teacher. Lamar is a retired law enforcement officer. Polly continues to work in school systems throughout central Louisiana teaching Life Skills to students. Lamar continues to work in law enforcement working with children and their families.

We both understand the issues children face in today’s world.
Children have issues of concern. These concerns sometimes go unaddressed
out of fear of retaliation or not knowing what to do.

Polly and Lamar wanted to provide a means for children to report any issues of concern.

IF YOU’RE CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE, WE HAVE SOME MESSAGES FOR YOU

Depression, low self-esteem, body image issues, bullying. Yeah, I’ve been through all of that. And with going through those hardships, I felt stripped of my identity, of who I was. Being bullied for most of my life put a wall up inside of me, and it wasn’t until I was in 8th grade that I decided to knock that wall down. I started an Anti-Bullying Program I like to call Resurrection. Through Resurrection I started to find who I was, and I’m still working on finding the rest of me, but I learned to not let people tell me who they think I should be, but for me to be the person I know I am.

Most people do not believe that bullying is a problem. Bullying is so common in our lives that sometimes we don’t even realize that it’s happening to us. Some adults say to us, “get over it. It builds character and will make you a stronger person or deal with it yourself.” It breaks and rips us apart bit by bit. Telling someone they are fat doesn’t make you skinny. Telling someone they are stupid doesn’t make you smarter. Telling someone to die doesn’t make you any better than them. It takes one second to say these things but a lifetime to get over it. We need to start standing up to those who think they can talk or do whatever they want to us. Say something! Talk to a trusted family member, friend, or responsible adult.

Whatever you may be going through whether it be depression, anxiety, or even if you’re stressed out; remember that you are not alone. Don’t be afraid to speak to someone about what you are going through. There are people everywhere who care and want to help you. There are also people who are going through or have went through the same thing as you are. Do not be afraid to tell someone your story either. They may be going through the same thing as you are. Together we can all overcome the struggles that we face day to day. USE YOUR VOICE!
