GRANT PARISH, La. (KALB) – In just two days children will be racing to the tree and unwrapping presents.
But Wednesday, Christmas came early for hundreds of Grant Parish children.
Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department joined forces with Santa Claus to help deliver gifts to children across the parish.
News Channel Five’s Andy Chambo joined in on the gift giving quest.
“It was an annual delivering of the gifts with Santa Claus to the children across the parish and this year we were able to help almost 300 children in Grant Parish,” said Sheriff Steven McCain.
GPSO received donations from residents of Grant Parish, Run Wild shoes in Alexandria and even inmates serving at Angola who helped refurbish bikes and make toys for very thankful kids.
“Thank you for all the presents that I got,” said three-year-old Jeremiah Crane, while hugging his wooden airplane.
But the kids weren’t the only ones who were thankful for the gift giving.
“It’s wonderful,” said Tuesday Ambrose, whose daughter Cheyenne received a new bike. “It’s a great feeling that there’s people out there that help. Thank y’all.”
Sheriff McCain said this day is one of his favorites of the year.
“It’s been a great day, added McCain. “It’s been a great day to see the look on the children’s face also to see the look on the families face to know that they had a little bit of extra help this year.”
Smiles were on everybody’s faces Wednesday.
“This is a very, very wonderful experience,” said Shirley Joseph, whose three grandchildren received gifts. “Thank god and thank you all. And if it wasn’t for you all and the lord up above then it wouldn’t be for my grand kids and it’s a blessing in disguise. I just thank everyone so much and you all have a happy, happy holiday!”
